Compass Minerals Renews Commitment to Environment
Compass Minerals is dedicated to the responsible transformation of Earth’s natural resources. The essential minerals used to produce its products help to enrich lives and communities around the world. Relying on natural resources throughout its operations, it is incumbent upon the company to be good stewards.
Today, on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the company had planned activities throughout its operations that have been postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis. However, Compass Minerals remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental stewardship. This year, Compass Minerals employees are encouraged to celebrate Earth Day with their families. When feasible, the company will come together once again for environmental initiatives and programs at each site.
As outlined in its latest Sustainability Report, Compass Minerals has reduced its emissions thanks to investments such as continuous mining and haulage, and upgrades to plants and evaporation ponds are increasing efficiency. In fact, as of 2018, 31% of the company’s sites had already met their GHG emissions and energy intensity targets for 2020. Additionally, 78% percent of the water used in its operations in 2018 was recycled, up 59% from 2017.
