Compass Minerals Celebrates Global Fertilizer Day

Compass Minerals is proud to support Global Fertilizer Day, celebrated annually on Oct. 13. Fertilizer plays a vital role in helping those in the agriculture industry meet the growing global demand for nutritious, sustainably grown food.

The company recognizes the importance of this essential resource and the people who make it possible. According to The Fertilizer Institute (TFI), responsible use of fertilizer accounts for 50% of global food production.

Compass Minerals’ Protassium+® premium sulfate of potash (SOP) fertilizer help growers achieve greater yields and maintain consistent crop quality. As a dual nutrient source, Protassium+ SOP provides high levels of potassium and sulfate sulfur, nutrients that support strong plant growth and healthy crop development. This is one way Compass Minerals fulfills its Core Purpose to help keep people safe, feed the world and enrich lives.

Fertilizers are essential to agriculture and are deeply connected to land and water resources, making environmental stewardship a shared responsibility. Protassium+ SOP is produced through a solar evaporation process where water from the Great Salt Lake is drawn into specially constructed ponds and solar evaporation leaves behind sulfate of potash and other essential minerals for harvest. The elements remaining after extraction are returned to the lake for future reuse, a demonstration of the company’s commitment to the responsible transformation of Earth’s natural resources.
