U.K. Sites Hold 2nd Annual Charity Soccer Game
In 2012, Glenn Carter, a 34-year employee of Compass Minerals, lost his battle with cancer. To celebrate his memory, employees have established the Glynn Carter Memorial Trophy event. During this annual event, teams from the Winsford mine and DeepStore compete in a soccer game, while raising money for two local charities, St Luke’s Hospice and Circus Starr.
The Winsford mine walked away with the win from this year’s competition, and the company raised almost $2,500 (£1,703.30) for the charities.
Cheshire-based Circus Starr is a professional, not-for-profit circus. Every year its world-class performers tour the U.K., raising money for local causes and providing free tickets for thousands of disadvantaged children. St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford is a much-valued local resource that offers respite and end-of-life care for adults with life-limiting illnesses.
“We’re delighted to celebrate Glynn’s memory with this fantastic community event,” said Mike McAuley, chairman of Compass Minerals U.K. charity committee. “We’re confident he’d feel proud of the fun and money raised in his name for these great charities – and all through his beloved sport.”
