Compass Minerals announces Jim Vanderwel has joined the company as vice president, treasurer.

Vanderwel will be responsible for all banking relationships, capital markets activities, financial risk management, credit management, collections, insurance, and all strategic and operational aspects of the treasury function, including bank relations, credit rating agency relations, debt management and cash management. He will also partner with the chief financial officer to monitor and provide advisement on the company’s capital structure.

Prior to joining Compass Minerals, Vanderwel served as treasurer of Limetree Bay Terminals LLC in Houston. He also served as assistant treasurer of Western Refining Inc., treasurer of Gibson Guitar Company and in a variety of strategic treasury and finance roles of increasing responsibility at Accuride Corporation and The Dow Chemical Company.

Vanderwel brings more than 25 years of treasury and corporate finance experience, including accounting, international finance, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and project financing. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario and a Master of Business Administration in finance from Central Michigan University. Vanderwel also currently holds an active Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation.
