Compass Minerals Releases 2015 Sustainability Report Update
Compass Minerals has released the 2015 Sustainability Update Report. This report provides an update on the company’s environmental and social responsibility performance using the Global Reporting Initiative methodology adopted last year as the framework for sustainability reporting efforts.
Compass Minerals continues to emphasize our broad approach to sustainability going beyond our safety and environmental stewardship to focus on our workforce, financial growth, corporate governance, and community involvement as well.
Some of the key highlights from this report:
- Our direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions (which form our carbon footprint) have declined 5 percent since 2013. This improvement was primarily driven by an increase in production at our Goderich mine, which has lower environmental impacts.
- Water impact improvements were driven by a 14 percent reduction in fresh water use at our Ogden, Utah, facility.
- Our intensified safety culture is showing benefits: five of our 15 sites ended 2015 accident-free, and our 2015 lost day rate declined 45 percent from our 2014 results.
- We are being recognized nationally for our efforts. Compass Minerals was named one the “Most Improved Corporate Citizens” in 2015 within the Russell 1000 stock market index as determined by Corporate Responsibility magazine.
A full report will be issued in 2017, covering five years of performance data and communicating our company-wide sustainability goals and objectives.
