Brandon Risner

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Brandon Risner joined Compass Minerals in December 2020, most recently serving as vice president, operations, Ogden and consumer and industrial (C&I). He was promoted to chief operating officer (COO) in August 2026. In his role as COO, Mr. Risner oversees operations for the company’s North American mining, packaging and production facilities. He has nearly three decades of mining industry experience, with deep technical, operational and leadership expertise across production, engineering, planning and asset optimization.

Before joining the company, Mr. Risner was general manager of Illinois mines at Peabody Energy. He spent more than 17 years at Peabody in positions of increasing responsibility, including project engineer, manager of operations analytics and vice president of engineering and mine planning. Prior to his career at Peabody, Mr. Risner held positions with JD Hair and Associates and Kiewit Mining Group.

Mr. Risner holds a Bachelor of Science in mining engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology) and a Master of Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis.
