Sulfate of Potash

With our companies Great Salt Lake Minerals Corporation and Big Quill Resources, Compass Minerals is the largest producer of sulfate of potash (SOP) in the Western Hemisphere.

Also known as potassium sulfate, SOP is a vital nutrient for high-value crops such as vegetables, fruits and nuts. SOP enhances grower profitability through increases yields, helping plants resist disease and pests, ensuring a longer shelf life and producing tastier and more attractive fruit. It is especially beneficial for chloride-sensitive crops, including turf, almonds, potatoes and horticulture. Big Quill Resources produces similar SOP grades for agriculture, as well as SOP useful for coatings to create timed-release formulations.

The SOP produced at Great Salt Lake Minerals Corporation is organic-approved (OMRI), making it a useful fertilizer for all organic farms.

Big Quill Resources also uses a unique process to develop a higher-purity SOP used in specialty applications such as abrasives, pharmaceuticals and foods.
